Fujifilm rumors 2023
The Fuji rumors flow almost freely as those for Canon, as Fujifilm always has something in its pipelines – and given that those lines comprise the best medium format cameras, the best instant cameras and the best APS-C cameras, there's usually plenty to talk about!
Fujifilm raised the bar in 2023 with the release of the Fujifilm X-H2S, and particularly the Fujifilm X-H2 and Fujifilm X-T5 – with the latter two setting a new APS-C benchmark with their 40.2MP sensors.
Unexpectedly TikTok breathed new life into the Fujifilm X100 line, and accordingly drove prices way up, so could Fujifilm have more unexpected surprises in store?
Fujifilm X-S20
It's been just over two years since the Fujifilm X-S10 kicked off the company's latest line of cameras, combining portability and power with low cost and weight – and the rumblings are the we're going to see a Fujifilm X-S20 announced at the next Fujifilm X Summit in April.
So what could we expect from the Fujifilm X-S20? It would be great to see it come with the new 40MP APS-C X-Trans sensor and the new X Processor 5 engine, as found in the X-H2 and X-T5. We assume that many of the other specifications will be very similar to what is already found in the X-S10 – which would mean, sadly, no weather sealing again.
Fujifilm X-Pro4
With no sign of the Fujifilm X-Pro4 on the horizon, and rumors that the manufacturer has stopped production of the Fujifilm X-Pro3, could this be the end of the line for the beloved rangefinder series?
Fujifilm wanted the X-Pro3 to be a camera that made you “rely more on your instincts” so, in a bold move, it removed the standard rear screen for a 'hidden' one that you had to flip out. Needless to say, not everyone loved this change. And although there has been no official announcement from Fujifilm, the X-Pro3 has been listed as discontinued by a number of retailers. And with the X-T5 and X-H2 being such phenomenal cameras, is there still demand for the quirky X-Pro line?
Instax Wide 400
While Fujifilm has constantly updated its Instax Mini line, its (literally) bigger brother has barely received any attention at all. The Instax Wide 300 was launched back in 2015 and, aside from a Toffee-colored paintjob (above) released in 2020, there hasn't been a new Wide camera in well over half a decade.
However, the launch of the Instax Link Wide printer in 2021 along with new black-bordered film shows that Fujifilm is taking a renewed interest in the line. Could a new Instax Wide be on the horizon this year? It certainly makes sense.
No more compacts
In a report by Nikkei, Fujifilm confirmed that it would be mothballing its FinePix line of compact cameras (joining Nikon in abandoning the category).
However, its X100 series (such as the Fujifilm X100V) will continue – not that people really consider these to be compact cameras, though the line did start as part of the FinePix range. And with the X100 having a resurgence thanks to TikTok (and prices surging in turn), it's a very wise move to keep the line alive!
The Fujifilm verdict
With Fujifilm having meaningfully expanded the medium format GFX line in 2021, and 2022 being all about the fifth generation of X-mount cameras, we're intrigued to see what 2023 holds in store.
